Ellen Weyts, graduated in 1993 at the Sint-Elisabeth Institute for Nursing in Belgium. She was appointed at the University Hospitals of Leuven where she worked in the departments of Emergency and ENT before she joined the IBD group in 2001. She there ran the IBD-day Clinic for over 10 years. In 2013 she was appointed full-time IBD-Nurse of the IBD group in Leuven where she is the first point of contact for patients. She also provides coaching and education for IBD patients.
Ellen Weyts has been member of ECCO for many years. She attended several N-ECCO meetings and actively took part in the N-ECCO School. She was one of the founders of the BINA (Belgian IBD Nurse Association) group in 2011 and is still an active member of the Steering Committee. She co-organized so far three annual National Meetings for nurses during the Belgian Week for Gastroenterology.
